A taste of history. When you walk around old town, you will find carvings of pineapples on gates and on walls surrounding many homes. This is to represent an old tradition. When a husband returned home from being away, a pineapple was skewered on the gate to indicate it was now proper for people (men) to visit the home. I love these traditions, and I love that Charleston shares them still!
